Chris Jaggers Atcha! Act of Faith
Act of Faith by name and act of faith by nature! In these times of global
upheaval and rampant consumerism, often music represents the only link with
sanity. Commercial considerations apart, working on an album is a good way
to stay centred and to strive for something positive in the world and that
is certainly what Chris and the band have done.
The music builds on previous strong cajun, zydeco and r'n'b leanings, adding a rockier, jazzier and funkier
approach, proving that you don't have to be American to produce a good roots
album.
Chris has been prolific as a song writer over the last decade or so, but
now his writing is stronger and more esoteric than ever. The humour is dry,
the emotion is transparent, the energy is there. The songs benefit from
Act of Faith's crystalline and imaginative production, handled by Jim Mortimore
and Charlie Hart, and from interpretation by a band in which every member
is part of the rhythm section.
And the guests make great contributions. Of course, it helps when Mick is
your brother, not least because of the way he can hone in on the essence
of a song. Dave Gilmour contributes superbly, as does Sam Brown who brings
another dimension to the already rich Atcha! canvas. Then there are Andy
Mackay, Billy Jenkins, Ben Waters, Jon Newey, Carol Grimes, Frank Mead......
